What would you do if you were the last human on Earth? This is the predicament Phil Miller faces in the comedy The Last Man on Earth. What sounds like a grim addition to post-apocalyptic literature is actually hilarious.
The Last Man On Earth is a television show that takes place in the year 2020, a year after a deadly virus outbreak takes over, leading Phil Miller to believe he is the sole survivor. Phil struggles as he tries to find fellow survivors, as well as learn how to survive on his own. His immaturity adds comedy to the show, as he often lies in kiddie pools of booze, draws faces on various sports balls so he has “buddies” to talk to, steals artifacts such as Monet and Van Gogh paintings and dinosaur fossils to decorate his house, and blows up cars for his amusement.
The current two seasons (with 30 episodes) follow the childish Miller as he finds fellow survivors often in humorous ways, such as survivors spotting an accident Miller caused. The Last Man On Earth has many well known guest stars, such as Will Ferrell and Jason Sudeikis. The survivors often get in sticky situations they have to solve, as Phil Miller can’t seem to catch a break.
I would recommend this show for ages 15 and above, as some of the humor could be a bit mature for younger audiences. The show has no social commentary or hidden message, it is pure slapstick. This series is perfect for summer binge watching (I recommend watching each episode in order from the beginning), as it is easy to watch and is sure to bring laughs.
