This weekend you can support women’s collegiate lacrosse at the National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) women’s lacrosse championship. Games are being played at Gillette Stadium, but you can also watch from home on ESPN, ESPN+, or ESPNU. The last time that the championship came to Massachusetts was in 2017, and the winner of the tournament was the University of Maryland.
In the semi finals this year, the University of North Carolina will be playing the University of Florida and Boston College is playing Northwestern. Both of these games take place on Friday, May 23 and you can buy tickets here. The Florida – UNC semifinal game starts at 3:00, but it is recommended to arrive a bit early as there are activities in the parking lots of Gillette. The other semi-final begins at 5:30 on Friday and the championship game takes place on Sunday, May 25 at 12.
Varsity lacrosse player Julia Fattaey ‘26 said “I am so excited to watch the NCAA tournament this weekend, especially the BC-Northwestern game at Gillette.”
During each day there are activities at Gillette called Fan Fest. In 2017 there were poster signings by team US members before the championship, and this is expected to be here again. Other activities included small drills to run through with collegiate players.
The top offensive players to watch for are Madison Taylor (Northwestern), Rachel Clark (BC), and the Humphrey sisters Chloe and Ashley (UNC). Madison Taylor is a junior at Northwestern and at this point she had 105 goals, which is the most goals scored in one season in NCAA history. Rachel Clark is a Senior at BC, and she has been one of the top scorers this season. Chloe Humphrey is a redshirt freshman at UNC who consistently scores around 5 goals per game, along with some assists. Ashley Humphrey is a graduate student at UNC, and although she has less points than the others she makes up with being a consistent player. In the 2023 season she had 88 assists while she played at Stanford.
