Lana Del Ray’s newest album is worth a listen

On March 24th, 2023, Lana Del Ray released her 9th album, titled Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. The album features 16 songs, with three songs released as singles. These songs stand out as some of her best work, and represent the growth she’s made since her earlier albums.

The three singles preceding the release of the album include the album’s title track, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” which was released on December 7th. Following that, “A&W” was released on February 14th. Exactly one month after that, “The Grants” was available on March 14th. These three singles are some of the best on the album, and are great to listen to as an introduction to the artist.

The title track of the album, and with that the name of the album, was inspired by the sealed off tunnel under a building in Long Beach, California. The song is slower than the other songs on the album and was written and sung by Del Ray herself. “A&W” was the second-released single, which peaked on the US Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs at spot 23. The song is the longest on the album, 7 minutes and 14 seconds, and is one of the most popular on the album. “The Grants” is the album opener, and the last released single.

The album also includes collaborations with a multitude of artists and bands, like Jon Batiste,  Bleachers, Tommy Genesis, John Misty, Riopy, and SYML. Jack Antonoff, a member of the band Bleachers, worked with Del Ray on the song “Margaret,” along with being the producer of the album. It is my favorite on the album, and unlike any other song of hers.

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd reached the 1st spot on the US Billboard Top Alternative Albums, 3rd on the US Billboard 200, and 1st again on the US Billboard Top Rock and Alternative Albums, and is most definitely worth a listen.
