HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE and TRDL celebrating the King's Coronation 2-5-23

With spring break coming up and warmer weather, London is the perfect destination for a holiday getaway. With so much to explore, here’s how to spend a day in London and make the most of your visit.

Brunch at Victoria House Coffee & Food (5 Coptic St.)
Start your day with a hearty brunch at Victoria House, located near the British Museum. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Sunday, it offers a variety of dishes at a reasonable price. I recommend reserving seats as it gets quite busy in the morning.

Morning to afternoon at the British Museum (Great Russell St.)
You’ll be glad you had a hearty breakfast because next up is the British Museum—a work of art on its own. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and until 8:30 p.m. on Fridays), this place has so much to explore that it’s impossible to see it all in one visit.

If it’s your first time here, don’t miss the Rosetta Stone, the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs, and the Elgin Marbles, a striking collection of sculptures from the Parthenon. Also, be sure to explore some of the museum’s hidden gems—like Lewis Carroll’s handwritten drafts of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, where you can see early sketches and edits that shaped this literary classic.

The museum is free to enter, but I recommend booking tickets ahead of time to avoid long lines. When you arrive, grab a map and plan your route—it’s easy to get lost in the variety of exhibits. Stop by the museum café for a quick dessert when you need a break. And before you go, don’t forget to check out the gift shop on the first floor for unique souvenirs and thoughtful gifts.

Dinner at Greene King (49 Great Russell St.)
After an afternoon of exploring, you’ll probably be ready to unwind with a satisfying meal. For around £15 per person, Greene King offers an authentic British dining experience just steps from the British Museum, making it a convenient stop after your visit. Open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., it’s the perfect spot to try the iconic fish and chips. Enjoy the crisp batter encasing tender fish, paired with thick-cut chips and a side of tartar sauce—a true British classic.

A Little Night Walk at Regent St.
Take the subway to Regent Street after dinner to unwind and enjoy the view of the London night sky. The many unique boutiques in the area offer a glimpse into London’s culture, making it a great place to pick up a few memorable finds that catch your eye, and wander through the vibrant streets on your way to the theater.

End the night at His Majesty’s Theater (Haymarket)
What better way to end the night than with a show? Situated in London’s theater district, His Majesty’s Theatre has long been home to The Phantom of the Opera, one of the world’s most beloved musicals, and I highly recommend watching it. As of now, performances are scheduled through the end of September 2025, but be sure to check the latest schedule in case of changes. Since its debut in 1986, this production has captivated audiences worldwide, but experiencing it on its original stage offers a breathtaking experience. Shows typically run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., leaving plenty of time to take the subway back to your hotel afterward.

With its iconic landmarks and hidden gems, every corner of London has a story to tell. Whether you’re visiting for a short or longer stay, this city truly has it all.
