Celebratory nonprofit enhances lives impacted by breast cancer

Breast cancer affects one in eight women and can impact families in all different ways. Dana Hall has twice this year partnered with the nonprofit organization Runway 4 Recovery, which helps these people and their families who are in need by raising money through fashion runway events and, recently, school donations and participation in charity events.

Runway 4 Recovery was founded in 2007 by Olivia Boger, who lost her mother to breast cancer and wanted to help others going through the same struggle. Olivia founded Runway 4 Recovery with the hope that she could help families afford basics like food, gas, education, and more while undergoing expensive cancer treatments.

Runway 4 Recovery holds fashion runway events that celebrate survivors and family members of those impacted by breast cancer. They celebrate the beauty and strength of women who have been diagnosed and give them a chance to feel beautiful while fighting this illness. Women undergoing chemotherapy treatments or other preventive treatments for breast cancer often lose their hair, have less energy, and sometimes need mastectomies. Survivors and family members impacted have the opportunity to walk the runway and be featured in an energetic, fun environment while raising awareness. In these events, Runway honors and celebrates survivors and those who have died, bringing people together and raising money.

Runway also holds fitness classes, 5k races, and more recently, collaborations with schools that participate in Playing for Pink, which is an opportunity for students to support this organization through fundraising events on and off the fields, spreading awareness of breast cancer and educating students.

This past fall, Dana Hall participated in Playing 4 Pink during Homecoming weekend. Emily Cohen ‘02, a Runway board member and breast cancer researcher, and Olivia Boger spoke to students, highlighting the work of the organization. During March, Dana Hall once again hosted a fundraising fun run benefiting Runway.

Donations to Runway may be made at their website.
